Meeting Minutes UMM Running Club September 5th, 2000 Present: Heidi S., Travis R., Steve F., Angela P., Camille F., Anna F., Adrienne S., Beth W., Jill M., Anne S., Jake K. Topics covered: 1. Cougar Quad* - A sign up sheet for volunteers was passed around the room. We still need a race rabbit, some traffic control, and water stop personnel. All volunteers will get a free race shirt plus first dibs on discounts for future club activities. - We have promotional posters for the run that need to be hung up. We'll be meeting on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 to run (or walk, bike, drive...) to various businesses in Morris to put the posters up. Several people signed up to help. 2. Saturday run* - Plans are forming for a Saturday morning (Sept. 9th) trip to either Glacial Lakes SP or Runestone County park for some trail running. We will leave Morris at 8:30 and be home by 11:00. It sounds early but it really is the best time to do that kind of thing. Rides to the park will be provided as well as post-run snacks. A sign up sheet was passed around for this too. 3. Group runs - We'll continue to hold group runs at 7:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday and at 4:00 pm on Sunday. As the days get shorter and colder, we may change these hours or cancel them altogether, depending on the level of interest. 4. Races - Many road racing opportunities exist this fall. As always, the club's website (www.morris.umn.edu/runclub) has a comprehensive list of races in the area. The Lake Country Classic on September 30th is one particular race that I encourage anyone interested in road racing to try. If enough people show interest, we can make a trip up and "compete" at it. - We talked about traveling to the Living History Farms Cross Country Race in Des Moines, IA, on the 18th of November. We hope to be able to pay for a lot of the trip through funds raised from the road race. It's a lot of fun for runners of any skill level. For further information on this race (the largest Cross Country race in the US), go to their website at: http://www.fitnesssports.com/lhfpage.html *If you missed the meeting but want to get in on any of the activities listed above, just send an email to the club and we'll make sure you get on the right list. We'll send out separate, private emails to the poster group and the Saturday morning group with more information very soon.
