Grants Development Has Moved

The Grants Development Office is now located at 3 Blakely Hall due to the renovation of the Community Services Building. Phone numbers will stay the same. We do have a new fax number. It is (320) 589-7024. Please stop by and see our new offices.

Welcome to the Grants Development Office website. The office is here to help UMM faculty and staff with both pre- and post-award grant activities. Click here to see a comprehensive list of funding opportunities. Some upcoming deadlines:

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR I); October 28, 2008, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in HFA 7.

RCR I will be presented via ITV for new faculty and existing, current faculty that need to complete the RCR education program required to participate in external and some internal funding opportunities, is being offered on the Morris campus. The subjects covered are the history of ethical research, plagiarism, and ethical conduct in research. To register, contact Rita Bolluyt in the Grants Development office (589-6564) or email bolluyt@morris.umn.edu by Friday, October 24.

University Resources
For a variety of research and funding related information, link into the Dean's Office. Review important Annual Deadlines for system-wide grants (UMM deadlines are often earlier). Access important institutional facts and figures through Institutional Research and keep up on recent faculty developments through the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. Also access important University offices that can help with a number of research related issues from Human Subjects protections to Responsible Conduct of Research (now known as FIRST).
Current Grants at UMM

Sara Haugen, Student Activites, recently received funding from the Minnesota Arts Council and Arts Midwest to bring cultural and artistic programs to campus through the performing arts series. Performers such as the Lula Washington Dance Company. A dance troupe founded by Lula Washington 30 years ago, exploring African-American social commentary to the floor. This is one of many events that Sara's work will bring to UMM.


Tammy Berberi, Assistant Professor of French, and the French Discipline have French Catbeen awarded an $1,800 grant from the French-American Cultural Exchange (FACE) for the second consecutive year, in support of Entre Nous, UMM’s French student organization, to bring the Tournées Film Festival to UMM and the Morris Community. The Festival will include five award-winning feature films from across the francophone world. Paris, je t'aime will be shown on Valentine's Day (a Thursday) at 7:00 p.m. at the Morris Theatre on East 6th Street in Morris, MN.

James Cotter, Professor of Geology, has been awarded a Jim Cotter$499,526 grant from the National Science Foundation for his project "UMM Step Program." The funds will support a project designed to encourage Native American students to graduate from science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) fields through innovative curriculur, recruiting and mentoring stategies. Gordon McIntosh, Associate Professor of Physics, has been Plan-It-Greenawarded a $97,063 grant from the National Science Foundation for his project "Research at Undergraduate Institutions: SiO Master Studies." The project will determine the integrated flux density of the emission and velocity shifts of maser features in four different vibrational states from Mira and R Cassiopeia. The phase dependence and vibrational state dependence of any variations will be examined to look for the effects of the possible passage of a shock through the circumstellar material or other mechanisms that could produce the observed variations.

Tom McRoberts, Director of Continuing Education, RegioTournées Film Festivalnal Programs, and Summer Session, and Center for Small Towns (CST) has received a $202,109 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation. The funds will be used for the development and implementation for the "Faculty and Student Fellows" program. This three-year program will further connect communities with UMM to enhance regional community development activites across western Minnesota. With its more than 10-year history of working on community-based, locally identified issues, CST will utilize its staff, methodology, and resources to provide neede assistance to communities in the region.
