What is the PSEO Program?

If you are a Minnesota high school junior or senior, this is an opportunity for you to take college courses while you are in high school. The MN Post-secondary Enrollment Options Program "allows (Minnesota) high school juniors and seniors to take courses, full or part-time, at public and private postsecondary institutions in MN for credit... The tuition, fees, and required textbooks are at no cost to the students."

Who is eligible to participate in the program?

You are eligible to participate if you are a Minnesota high school junior or senior. Beginning in the fall of 1997, the law allows public, nonpublic and home school students to participate. Students in cultural exchange programs are not eligible. If you are attending a public or private high school, consult your high school counselor. If you are home schooled, contact the college. Admission to the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) as a degree student is not required to enroll in GenEdWeb.

PSEO students interested in attending GenEdWeb online courses should submit a registration form, a copy of their high school transcript and the "PSEO Notice of Student Registration Form". These materials will be reviewed and students will be notified by the GenEdWeb office of their registration status.

While other factors may be considered, these are the four main areas that we use to evaluate PSEO student enrollment in GenEdWeb. Most PSEO high school students who are successful in GenEdWeb online courses meet more than one of the following criteria:

  • cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on 4.0 scale
  • top 10% of high school class
  • ACT composite score of 25
  • Academic strength (grade of A or B) in the high school course area they wish to enroll in GenEdWeb

Courses and Credits

When you combine your high school and college registrations, you may not exceed a full-time high school registration. Registration beyond full-time is at your own expense. In working out a balanced program, consider that a full time high school load is generally six high school classes per day. A full time UMM load is 12 - 15 credits per semester.

According to the state guidelines, one high school credit may be met by no more than seven quarter credits or four semester credits. The courses offered through this website are 4 semester credits and do meet the minimum number of credits required if your high school concurs.

How do I Participate?

Students, guidance counselors, homeschool teachers, and parents should read the GenEdWeb Technical Guidelines and Minimum Technical Requirements before registering for a GenEdWeb online course. Many high schools provide students with access to computers and an internet connection during a free class period so that students may work on their online coursework at the school during school hours.

If you are home schooled, contact the GenEdWeb program for more information.

If you are a public or private school student:

  • Meet with your high school counselor, who will provide you with the information about the program.
  • Work with your counselor or principal to select courses to fulfill your high school graduation requirements.
  • When you have selected a course:
    - Complete the post-secondary enrollment options form available from your high school. Your counselor's signature is required, as is your parent's or guardian's, if you are not yet 18 years old.
    - Complete the course registration form. Obtain a copy of your high-school transcript.
    - Complete the request for official transcript form. (see transcripts and grades below)
  • Send or fax the above mentioned forms to:
UMM Continuing Education, GenEdWeb Program, 225 CSB, 600 E. 4th St., Morris, MN 56267; FAX number: 320-589-1661. You will not be formally registered until all properly completed documents are received and your registration is approved by the GenEdWeb program coordinator.
  • Once your registration is finalized, you will be sent additional information about books and other course requirements. Please be aware that all books used during your registration belong to UMM. If you withdraw from a course, you will be expected to return your books to the UMM Bookstore. If you do not return the books to UMM at the completion of your online course, you will be billed.

Forms

PSEO Notice of Student Registration form, State of Minnesota:
This form, available in .pdf format above or from your high school counselor, should be completed and sent to the GenEdWeb program along with your registration. Please fill out section 1 and ask your school to complete section 2. The GenEdWeb staff will complete section 3 of the form and send a copy of the form to both the state and your high school after the second week of class. This document includes the courses you are taking, indicates the number of hours you are attending high school, and provides verification from the high school and the college that you are eligible to receive PSEO program benefits.

Transcripts and Grades

You must complete and return a Request for Official Transcript form in order for your high school to receive record of your GenEdWeb course grade(s). The form can be printed as a .pdf file or complete and return the one sent to you in the orientation packet. Once you have completed a course and the grades have been posted to the University registration system, UMM will send a transcript to your high school so that these credits can be counted in progress toward your high school graduation. Your credits will also be on a University of Minnesota transcript to use toward college graduation.

Students may check their University of Minnesota grades online via the Registrar's Office from the UMM Student Onestop Site. You will need your University of Minnesota Internet ID number and password to access your online student record.

Books

Once you are registered, the GenEdWeb office will order the texts for the course for which you're registered from the University of Minnesota, Morris booksore. The bookstore will send the books to your home address unless you tell us a different address. If you prefer to pick up your texts in person, please call our office at 1-800-842-0030; we will inform the bookstore staff to release the books to you.

Information in this website will be periodically updated. Please check with your high school guidance counselor, the State of Minnesota, or the UMM Regional Advising Service for changes.
