Comparative Education
Critical thinking abilities and insight into other
cultures developed through study of education in selected countries and
the United States.
Course Overview
Greetings and Welcome to a brief overview of this World Wide Web (WWW)
based Comparative Education course. Comparative Education is a subject
that is ideally suited to use of the WWW because of the access it gives
us to current information about education in our world.
In this course we will focus our attention on the nature and goals of
primary and secondary education in our global community. The students and
I will work together as a learning team to explore a part of the vast amount
of information about education that is available to us. This is not a course
in which there is one correct answer or set of truths. It is a course that
offers a process through which we can reflect on our own education and seek
to understand the processes and outcomes of education in other societies
This course is based on the premise that we can better know ourselves
by increasing our understanding of others. Thus, an expected result of our
comparative study of education in different societies is that we will formulate
reflective and defensible opinions about education in our own lives, concerning
our local schools, and about educational policies in our nation and world.
The success of students in this course will depend on their initiative,
skills in posing and finding answers to questions, in synthesizing information,
and in presenting their ideas in writing. If you have strong high school
level skill in these areas, and a willingness to improve these skills, this
study of education could be of interest and value to you.
I invite you to join in this process so we may all increase our knowledge
of the world in which we live.
Information about myself and a sample activity from the course are available

Thank you for visiting this site. I hope we will have the opportunity
to work and learn together.
