All the
participating disciplines of the Women's Studies major have outlined their
Mission, Goals, Methods, and Assessment Plans. Because of the
interdisciplinary nature of the major, some assessment will occur within each
discipline that offers courses in our curriculum. In addition to this,
the Women's Studies Advisory board undertakes its own assessment. The
main tool of assessment for the Women's Studies discipline is the course, WoSt
4901 Assessment of Student Learning in Women's Studies. In this course,
students write a paper outlining what they have learned and participate in a
panel focused on discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the program.
The coordinator of the Women's Studies major distributes these papers to, and
discusses them with, the Women's Studies Advisory Board. We began
collecting these data in 2001, and since then have regularly re-assessed and
improved the major based on this feedback.
