Study Abroad Resources by Discipline
Nearly half of UMM students study abroad.
Will you be one of them?
That's the highest average in the University of Minnesota system! As part of a system-wide Curriculum Integration initiative, UMM is developing
- a network of Discipline Study Abroad (DSA) Advisors who work with students to coordinate their wish to study abroad with the requirements for their major.
- a Discipline Study Abroad Sheet for each UMM major. Each DSA Sheet offers guidelines and advice about when to go abroad, how to afford it, the number of transfer credits that will be accepted in the major, and a list of programs the discipline recommends.
- a find a list of programs to enable you to improve your foreign language skills while focusing on your major field of study. NB. These programs have not necessarily been assessed by the DSA Advisor in your major. Work closely with your DSA Advisor to be certain that the program you choose will advance you in your major.

Remember, it is never to soon to begin investigating your options!
Beginning these conversations at least a year in advance of departure will give you the time you need to develop your plans to study abroad.

Resources linking discipline study abroad and foreign language study and those related to working abroad are the result of collaboration between Profs. Stacey Aronson (Spanish), Tammy Berberi (French) and Jenifer Cushman (formerly in the German Discipline), part of a UMM Educational Development Project, "Fostering Lifelong Experiences with Foreign Languages." Questions about this web site should be directed to Prof. Tammy Berberi.
