Ethnobotanical/Economic Uses: Important economic food and ornamental plants. Hibiscus rosa-sinesis is the state flower of Hawaii. Raw flowers are eaten there to aid digestion. In Tahiti a Hibiscus worn behind the right ear shows one is looking for a mate.
Cultural Requirements: Blooms with the sun from early spring to late fall and through the winter if kept light and warm. Can be trained into an attractive tree like semi standard.
