Before the closure of Ingenio Puruarán in 1992, the production zone constituted 2,062 hectares of cane. with its future production assured, many cane growers will return to cane cultivation and again deliver their cane to the Puruarán mill. Before, in 1991, the mill industrialized 158,498 tons of cane and produced 15,400 tons of sugar. Workers expect to process 100,000 tons of cane in the next harvest. The proof of its productive efficiency is in the production that Ingenio Puruarán achieved in 1992, in comparison with other mills in the country, before its closure by the corporate owner, who had no interest in operating the factory.
